what do you think of the movie Eyes Wide Shut?
i’m watching it right now with my girl and i’m not sure what to make of it.
I think it shows that Stanley Kubrick was a dirty old man, at least for this movie! If another name was on this film, people would tear it apart! I saw it for the first time recently, and was absolutely shocked that such an amateurish, thoroughly nasty movie could have been made by such an otherwise brilliant filmmaker.
I have to admit that I intensely dislike what Kubrick did to "The Shining", but that seemed minor compared to most of his other films.
However, "Eyes Wide Shut" is just crude and nasty with very little redeeming points. Take a look at the horrid performances! Some of them are outright embarrassments! People say, "But, it’s Kubrick!" This does not qualify as a work of genius. Show it to someone who has no idea who Stanley Kubrick is for a true test of this film. I now wish I’d put off watching it that much longer. What a huge stain on the memory of a remarkable director except that so many people seem bamboozled into considering it brilliant.
I doubt that I shall ever want to watch it again. As I said before: It certainly makes it look as if Stanley Kubrick was a dirty old man. Trust me, I could go into much more detail. I’m just wondering how anybody could watch it in mixed company and feel comfortable with it. For one thing, it’s so mindboggling sexist!

Not a bad flick

I saw it one time and not going to see it again. It confused me, I didn’t like watching Nicole Kidman getting naked or anything, am not a prude, but the film just left a nasty taste in my mouth. When it finished, I just heaved a sigh of relief that it had ended and I remember thinking, I didn’t understand anything of what went on except that there were orgies and ppl were on a high roll!!
